Broadband
The economy of the world is growing evermore dependant on the availability and the quality of broadband connectivity and the quantity of broadband internet service providers. Businesses are created with a dependence on the wide area networks that broadband enables, and new forms of doing business in general, are taking advantage of its wide availability.
In the United States broadband is virtually available in all metropolitan and suburb areas. Speeds of three and five megabits are expected with even the cheapest plans. DSL and Cable internet providers are raking in the dough charging monthly service fees that are quickly becoming essential and integrated parts of our everyday life.
Other means of internet access should not be overlooked however. Satellite and cellular connections are approaching near-broadband speeds. Satellite broadband appeals largely to the homes and even business that do not have the infrastructure that is commonplace in even rural areas of the US. Whereas the wireless connectivity available from cellular providers make quick connections for instant messaging, email and even broadcast television, only seconds away from an enabled phone.
It is the latest outbreaks of television, movies, and video messaging that is exponentially increasing the demand from broadband ISPs. Once a consumer has tasted streaming video and audio on a broadband connection, it is hard to turn off the desire for a consistent feed of high bandwidth. Another appealing aspect of high-speed internet access is the rapidly dropping price of the service. With most providers, being cable companies and the telephone service providers, they can offer you a savings if you bundle your broadband internet service with other features they provide such as VOIP, television and premium cable channels.
In regards to web design and web development and high speed internet – this does not entitle sites to heap huge graphics and HD transfer expectations. Although broadband connections are widely available, there is still a large percentage of the internet community that use dial up, and even lower speed DSL. Smart developers will continue to create sites for the lowest common denominator when it comes to download speeds and performance. Remarkably, even these speeds are increasing as the infrastructure networks are constantly being upgraded to support non-internet functions, while reaping the dual rewards.
